Here is my rig. I have been slowly building and adding to it for 20 years now haha. Built the 80/20 rig in 2013 and have been tweaking/tearing down/re-building ever since. Definitely overkill, but I like tinkering with stuff a lot and was able to buy, barter and trade my way up on a lot of the equipment. Profit from my pinball machines helps Cheaper than playing golf once a week Anyways, the 80/20 aluminum is the best material I have found for building a racing rig. It is incredibly flexible. No matter what kind of peripheral I get, I can always fine a way to mount it with the pieces I have and don't have to fabricate anything or use any tools other than some t-handle hex wrenches. Here is the rig we built for my dad (RON) last winter. Much more useful and less bulky than mine. The pedals are some hydraulic pedals I built 6-7 years ago out of a racing pedal box.

Anyways, the 80/20 aluminum is the best material I have found for building a racing rig. It is incredibly flexible. No matter what kind of peripheral I get, I can always fine a way to mount it with the pieces I have and don't have to fabricate anything or use any tools other than some t-handle hex wrenches. Compared to something made from wood, or plastic it has to be better? Honestly, with whatever building material, surely there needs to be some measuring. Maybe even some kind of plan before building. I guess maybe the metal maybe makes it feel more automotive? Probably lots of different designs available out three. With this whole covid stuff I wonder if some people have been creative? Maybe some stuff is hard to order online...what did they throw together at home? Need a new computer first, but where to put it after? It has been some time since last searched, but at there any decent build your own videos out there? I can recall some old school ones made from 2X4s or PVC.
Not that a new dedicated PC and racing seat would make me any faster, it really is about the dedication to the sim racing. It just has to feel that much better to get in your racing seat, rather than the computer chair.

Equipment won't make you faster. I improves immersion/comfort/fun (maybe). I personally love creating and building things. Designing it in Sketchup or some other CAD program and bringing it to reality is half the fun for me. Building a rig out of wood is just as good as anything else. I just like the 80/20 b/c of the flexibility of it. My rig looks almost nothing like it did when I first designed and built it. I has changed so much over the years, including being converted into a camera stand and a desk, then back to a racing rig. All with just a T-handle hex wrench.

I use a Sim-Lab rig (80/20 extruded aluminium) with a race seat, G29 wheel pedal combo. Must say that when I got the Sim-Lab rig my driving did improve.

I am still building my rig. I had a G25 from 2006 through until a few years ago when I acquired a used T500RS. It came with a GT Omega racing stand without the seat or attachment for the seat. It was nicer to have that than bolting it to the desk. I used a lawn chair for a while until just recently I was driving to my brother's house and saw a racing seat sitting in the garbage of someone's house. I threw it in the car and later found out it was a BRIDE EXAS 2. It had the rails on it and seat mounts, unused in a box beside it. I made up a 80/20 contraption to bolt the seat rails onto it from stock I acquired a long time ago with the intention of building something for racing with it. Yesterday I found a better pedal set for the T500rs along with a analog to digital converter mechanism for the pedals that increases the resolution of the pedals. I have not used them yet.. So I will have to report back if they make any improvement. My other pedals are terrible. Next upgrades for me is going to be a shifter. I have an Oculus version 1 that was a gift from my parents last year. It had been in the family but the person who owned it didn't want it. I tried out the newer oculus two days ago and its incredible and YOU CAN PUT GLASSES ON UNDER IT. It's great. The audio is WEIRD. Feels like the speakers are in your brains or something.

Yeah the audio solution on the Rift S is pretty mediocre. I just plugged in some earbuds when I had mine.

Here is my newbie rig. I would like to build me an 80/20 rig. Any good US suppliers? IF you are building your own, tnutz.com is as cheap as anybody right now. I bought most of mine from Misumi (6 years ago) but their prices have gone up lately. 8020.net is super expensive. rigmetal.com/I can't vouch for these guys, but I stumbled across them yesterday. It is as cheap as i have seen for a pre-configured 80/20 rig and looks well designed IMO.

as for prebuilt rigs, I would stay away from Track Racer. JAR23 has a rig from them and it took over 6 months to get his order and the quality wasn't as high as I thought it should be for the price.

Here is my new GT Omega Prime. I haven't put the end caps on yet. Waiting to make sure everything is where I want it. I also haven't installed the gear shift mount. I'm still using the G29 but upgraded the pedals to the Thrustmater T-LCM.
